Benefits of Sump Pump Services
Our Sump Pump Maintenance and Repair Process
Sump pumps have an average lifespan of between five and seven years, which can vary depending on the water flow. Isaac encourages all homeowners to take a proactive approach rather than a reactive one when dealing with sump pumps. To ensure it is functioning properly, Isaac implements a systematic maintenance process.
We conduct periodic cycling of the sump pumps to assess their performance. If a pump is found to be non-operational, we take the following steps:
- We disconnect it, cut the discharge line, and remove the old pump.
- In its place, we install a new Liberty 257 cast iron sump pump, complete with a platform designed to prevent debris from impeding the impeller. The new pump comes with a 3-year manufacturer warranty and is manufactured in Bergen, New York.
- We also replace the inch-and-a-half PVC discharge line and incorporate a new quiet-close check valve.
- After installation, we conduct rigorous testing to ensure the pump’s proper operation and verify that there are no leaks in the system.
This proactive maintenance approach helps to extend the life and reliability of your sump pump.

Sump Pump FAQs
How does a sump pump work?
A sump pump is typically installed in a sump pit, which is a hole in the lowest point of your basement or crawl space. When the water level rises inside the pit, a sensor triggers the pump to turn on and pump out the water away from the property.
How often should a sump pump be tested and maintained?
It’s good practice to check your sump pit and sump pump often, especially before the rainy season or before you expect heavy rainfall. You can test your sump pump by pouring water into the pit and seeing if the pump activates. Consider cleaning the pit and removing any debris on a regular basis.
What size and type of sump pump do I need for my home?
The size of the sump pump depends on the size of your basement, the water table in your area, and the average amount of rainfall or run off in your area. An Isaac plumber can help you determine the right size and type to meet your specific needs.
What should I do if my sump pump fails during a heavy rainstorm?
Should your sump pump fail, you’ll need to act fast to avoid water damage. You can begin by manually removing water from the pit. Planning ahead and installing a back-up sump pump, operated by a battery or water-powered, can provide added protection in case your primary sump fails.
